Looking for the best places for family photos in Orlando? You’re in the right spot. I’m Michelle Coombs, and I’ve spent the last decade as a Central Florida Orlando family photographer — which means I’ve shot at every park, every Disney resort backdrop, and every quiet pocket of Spanish moss within an hour of downtown. I’ve been the one squinting into the 5:47 PM golden hour at Cypress Grove, dodging mosquitos at Lake Runnymede, and learning the hard way which parks require permits (and which ones will absolutely ask you to leave).
This guide isn’t a generic listicle scraped from Google. It’s the same shortlist I send my own clients when they book a session — organized by vibe, with the practical stuff photographers usually leave out: permit requirements, parking, golden-hour timing, what to wear, and which months actually look good. If you’re a local family planning fall portraits, a visiting family squeezing in a Disney trip session, or you just want to DIY some pictures with your phone, this is for you.
Let’s get into it.
Table of Contents
ToggleBefore we dive into the actual locations, a real talk moment from someone who has photographed all of these places dozens of times: the best Orlando family photo spot for you depends on your family — not on what looks prettiest on Instagram.
When I’m helping a client choose, I ask four questions:
Okay — let’s get into the actual list.
If I had to pick one neighborhood for family photos in Orlando, it would be Winter Park. The light filters through ancient oaks, the architecture is old-Florida elegant, and almost every spot here is within five minutes of the next.
📍 1365 Alabama Drive, Winter Park, FL 32789
This tiny lakefront park punches absurdly above its weight. Towering cypress and oak trees create a cathedral-like canopy, and the white columns at the back of the park have shown up in roughly half of Central Florida’s wedding portfolios. It’s stunning in golden hour and unworkable on overcast days unless your photographer is using off-camera flash (I do).
📍 1300 S. Denning Drive, Winter Park, FL 32789
Mead is the wild cousin of Leu Gardens — 47 acres of native Florida landscape, butterfly gardens, boardwalks over wetlands, and tropical foliage that genuinely doesn’t look like Florida. It’s free, it’s almost never crowded on weekday mornings, and it gives you four or five completely different looks in one session.

📍 1000 Holt Avenue, Winter Park, FL 32789
Spanish-colonial architecture, lakefront views over Lake Virginia, manicured lawns, a rose garden, and one of the most photogenic college campuses in the Southeast. It feels Mediterranean, not Floridian — which is exactly why it works for families who want something dressier.
📍 Lake Baldwin Park, 2000 S. Shore Drive, Orlando, FL 32814
Charming neighborhood vibe, walkable Main Street, a long pier on Lake Baldwin, and golden-hour light that bounces off the water like a soft box. This is my personal favorite for holiday family photos in Orlando — especially November, when the light is buttery and the temperature finally cooperates.
📍 1920 N. Forest Avenue, Orlando, FL 32803
Fifty acres of botanical gardens, a rose garden, the iconic Leu House, a gigantic banyan tree, and the famous pink azalea blooms in late winter. There’s an admission fee plus a separate professional photography permit — but for a polished, dressed-up family session, almost nothing in Orlando beats it.
📍 512 E. Washington Street, Orlando, FL 32801
The downtown Orlando skyline, the swans, the iconic fountain, the giant flagpole — Lake Eola is the most “Orlando” location on this list. It works beautifully for families who want a recognizable, urban backdrop instead of garden lushness.
📍 290 Holden Avenue, Orlando, FL 32839
A canopy of moss-draped oaks lining the entrance road, a historic estate at the end, and a gorgeous lakefront with sunset views over Lake Jessamine. This is my pick for clients who want “old Florida” without the Winter Park price tag.

📍 100 Rosearden Drive, Orlando, FL 32803
Hidden, lush, and weirdly jungle-like for a city park. There’s a stone bridge, a small ravine, tropical greenery, and just enough texture to make every shot feel cinematic. Smaller than the others but a great one-stop spot for a 20–30 minute Petite Session.
If you’re visiting Orlando for a Disney trip, the resorts themselves are some of the best places for family photos in Orlando — full stop. They’re beautifully maintained, the architecture does half the work for you, and you don’t have to leave property. I shoot Disney resort family sessions every week — here are my four favorites:
The Atlantic-City-meets-Disney aesthetic gives you colorful Victorian buildings, lakefront walkways, and string lights that come on right at golden hour. Easy parking via valet at the BoardWalk Inn, and almost every shot here looks intentional.
The most photogenic resort on property, period. Crisp white Victorian architecture, manicured grounds, and lakefront monorail views. Best for families who want a dressier feel — this is not a barefoot-on-the-sand vibe.
Tropical, relaxed, and home to one of the few sandy beaches inside Walt Disney World. Iconic torch lighting, a beach with Magic Kingdom views, and a chill barefoot energy that works beautifully for casual families. (Yes — I’ve photographed many a Disney Vacation Club family at the Polynesian beach. It always works.)
The newest of the bunch and easily the most underrated. European-inspired architecture, terracotta tiling, and views back across to EPCOT. Less crowded than BoardWalk, more architectural drama than Polynesian.
📍 7305 U.S. Hwy 27, Clermont, FL 34714
About 45 minutes west of Orlando in Clermont, Lake Louisa is 4,500 acres of rolling fields, oak hammocks, beach access, and tall grass that turns golden at sunset. If you want photos that don’t look like every other Orlando family session, this is where I’d send you.
📍 1800 Wekiwa Circle, Apopka, FL 32712
Crystal-clear springs, towering palms, and old Florida swamp vibes. About 25 minutes from downtown Orlando in Apopka. Park info on the official Florida State Parks site.
📍 St. Cloud, FL
A favorite of Central Florida photographers — moss-draped cypress, tall grass, dramatic curving trees, and almost guaranteed solitude. Bring bug spray. Seriously. No restrooms, primitive access. But the photos? Worth it.
Real talk: if you’re visiting Orlando and you can spare 60 minutes of driving, get to the coast. The light at Cocoa Beach or New Smyrna at sunrise is unmatched, and the photos feel completely different from anything you’ll get inland. I wrote a full guide to the best Florida beaches for family photos here, but the short version:
One hour east of Orlando. My most-booked beach session location — and for good reason.

Slightly further north, slightly less crowded, and the sand is whiter than Cocoa. Sunrise sessions here are pure magic.
Quick reality check, because this trips up almost every family that tries to DIY a session:
If you book a session with me, I handle every permit for every shoot — clients never have to think about it. If you’re DIYing your own photos with a phone or a friend, casual family photos for personal use are almost always fine. The rules kick in for tripods, lighting equipment, posed sessions with paid talent, etc.
The single biggest factor in how your Orlando family photos turn out isn’t the location — it’s the light. After a decade of shooting here, this is my honest seasonal breakdown:
| Month | Light Quality | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Jan–Feb | ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ | Cool, clear, gorgeous golden hour. Peak season for a reason. |
| Mar–Apr | ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ | Azaleas blooming. Best two months of the year. |
| May | ⭐⭐⭐⭐ | Heat ramps fast. Shoot early morning only. |
| Jun–Aug | ⭐⭐ | Brutal heat + 4 PM thunderstorms. Sunrise sessions only. |
| Sep–Oct | ⭐⭐⭐ | Hurricane season caveat — book flexible. |
| Nov–Dec | ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ | Holiday card season. Books up fastest. Reserve early. |
Time of day: Aim for 60–90 minutes before sunset, year-round. In summer, also consider sunrise — yes, it’s a 6 AM call time, but the light is identical and it’s 25 degrees cooler.
I send every client a full wardrobe guide before their session, but here’s the short version:
Here’s what working with me looks like — short version:
For most families, Kraft Azalea Garden in Winter Park is the top pick — the draped Spanish moss and lakefront create unmatched golden-hour light. For visiting families, Disney’s BoardWalk Resort offers iconic backdrops without leaving property. For a more natural feel, Cypress Grove Park or Cocoa Beach at sunrise are unbeatable.
Professional Orlando family photographers typically charge between $400 and $1,200 per session. My current pricing ranges from $497 for a 20-minute Petite Session to $897 for a full Signature Session, both including all editing, personalized location guidance, and a private gallery. See full session details here.
For professional photography sessions, yes — most City of Orlando parks, Winter Park parks, Orange County parks, and state parks require a photography permit. Casual personal photography with a phone is generally fine. When you book a session with me, I handle every permit so you don’t have to.
The 60–90 minutes before sunset (golden hour) is ideal year-round. In summer (May–September), early morning sessions starting around sunrise are equally beautiful and dramatically more comfortable in Florida heat. Avoid midday sessions — Florida sun creates harsh shadows and squinting.
February through April and November through early December are the best months for family photos in Orlando. Cool temperatures, clear skies, and forgiving golden-hour light make these the most-booked months — especially November, which is peak holiday-card season and tends to fill 8–12 weeks in advance.
Yes — Disney resort family sessions are one of my specialties. I regularly photograph at Disney’s BoardWalk, Polynesian, Grand Floridian, Riviera, and Beach Club Resorts. Learn more about Disney resort family photography here.
For peak season (October–December and March–April), I recommend booking 2–3 months in advance. For other months, 4–6 weeks is usually sufficient. Last-minute sessions are sometimes possible — reach out to check availability.
Absolutely. The Signature Session is built for extended families, multi-generation gatherings, and reunion-style shoots. Locations like Lake Louisa State Park, Cocoa Beach, and the Disney resorts handle larger groups beautifully.
The best places for family photos in Orlando aren’t always the most-Googled ones. After a decade of shooting here, I’ve watched families try to force a session at the trendiest spot of the moment, only to walk away with photos that feel staged. The locations on this list — Kraft Azalea, Cypress Grove, Mead Garden, Disney’s BoardWalk, Cocoa Beach — work because they let your family be your family. The light does the heavy lifting. The setting holds the moment. My job is to stay out of the way long enough to catch the real ones.
If you’ve made it this far, you’re clearly serious about getting this right — and I’d love to help. Whether you’re a local family planning your annual portraits, a visiting family squeezing in a Disney resort session, or somewhere in between, send me a note and tell me a little about your family. I reply personally within one business day.
