Mistake #1: Not enough time to get ready
Most couples underestimate just how long it takes to get all glammed up for their ceremony. If you hired a professional hair and makeup artist, talk to them about how much time it will take to prepare you and include plenty of time in your schedule. You also will want to schedule in some buffer time, just in case things take longer than expected.
Mistake #2: Not eating before your ceremony
We get it, you will likely feel nervous. But not eating prior to your ceremony can lead to feelings of faintness or stomach issues that can cause major problems. You don’t have to eat a full meal, but have some snacks or small sandwiches on hand for your entire wedding party and make sure you get some food in your stomach before you walk down the aisle.
Mistake #3: Coordinating everything yourself
When your wedding day arrives, your part in the planning process is done. We highly recommend hiring a wedding planner or coordinator to handle your vendors and all the details of your day, but if that’s not in your budget, delegate various responsibilities to friends and family members who you can trust. You should enjoy your wedding day, not be stressing about whether your caterer is all set up on time.
Mistake #4: Not spending enough time with your partner
Between getting ready and greeting loved ones, it can be easy to miss out on spending time with your partner—the reason you’re having a wedding in the first place! Set aside some time during your wedding day to spend just the two of you. Take a walk near your venue or just find a private space to chat and take in the joy of your wedding day together.
Mistake #5: Missing out on important photos
If there are images you absolutely want to enjoy later, be sure to let your photographer know. It can even help to create a list of photos that are important to you, so that your photographer is aware and makes an effort not to miss these moments.
Mistake #6: Forgetting to say thank you
A wedding is not a one-person effort, and it’s important to thank everyone who helped make your day so special. In addition to the traditional speeches from your loved ones, it’s important for you and your partner to give your own speech, thanking your friends and family members. Be sure to write out a list of everyone you want to thank so you don’t forget anyone.
Mistake #7: Not having a Plan B
No one can predict the future, and you never know how your wedding plans can be thrown out of line. COVID-19 is a great example, and many couples who planned to get married in 2020 can tell you that they never expected to have to reschedule or completely rework their wedding plans. You should always have a Plan B in place for the unexpected, from an incident or serious illness in your family to severe weather.
Mistake #8: Forgetting what your day is truly about
During the chaos of your wedding day, it can be easy to forget about what brought you here: the love that you and your partner share and your hopes for your future together. Take time to celebrate this special milestone in your lives!
